Stafford House Brighton school-60 Years of experience

Stafford House School of English was founded in 1952. With 60 years of experience and success behind us, we remain focused on maintaining the highest standards and on the development of each student’s full potential.

Brighton - The UK's coolest seaside town

Brighton is a cool and cosmopolitan city, located on England's south coast, just fifty minutes by train from central London. Featuring a huge range of shops, restaurants, culture and nightlife, as well as a huge student population based around its two universities, Brighton is an ideal student city.

Stafford House Brighton-Highly qualified teachers

All our permanent teaching staff hold a Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) or equivalent. This is an advanced English teaching qualification that shows the exceptional quality and ability of the staff at the School.

Stafford House Brighton-Personalised learning

We aren’t a massive, impersonal English language centre. Our classes are small, with an average of 10 (max 14) students. You can be sure there is always a good mixture of nationalities, and that English is spoken, rather than your native language. You will also get regular personal feedback on your progress. From this you have the opportunity to discuss your changing needs and make any changes to your programme or choice of options.

Stafford House Brighton-Latest Teaching methodology

Class participation, creative thinking, regular personal tutorials and testing are just some of the proven methods that guarantee our students’ success in learning English. All our class rooms feature Interactive whiteboards, allowing us to take full advantage of the internet and video during classes.

Stafford House Brighton-Your future studies

If you want to further your studies, you can take advantage of the fact that Stafford House is part of Cambridge Education Group, the UK’s leading provider of university pathways.

Brighton

The UK's coolest seaside city
Brighton is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city, located on England’s south coast just 50 minutes from Central London. Boasting a wide range of shops, restaurants, culture and nightlife, as well as it's famous beach front, it's easy to see why it's one of the UK's most popular student destinations.

A seaside town

Perhaps the city's most popular attraction, especially during the summer, is its beach. Bustling with restaurants, gift shops and fun fairs, a ferris wheel, ice rink and, of course, the famous Pier, the seafront is popular with visitors of all ages.

For sports fans, the Yellowave Beach Sports complex also offers a variety of different sports facilities, including volleyball, beach football, beach rugby and ultimate frisbee.

After dark, the area is a popular nightspot with some of the country's best club nights taking place in the many bars and clubs located on the sea front and underneath the Victorian arches.

A cosmopolitan student city

With two universities and over 40,000 full-time students, Brighton is an ideal student city. As a result the city offers an excellent public transport network (including 20 bus routes that stop outside Stafford House alone), a huge array of affordable shops and restaurants offering student discount, a vibrant creative community and excellent nightlife.

Each year the city welcomes over 25,000 language students who are well-catered for by an extensive selection of international restaurants and food shops.

Truly Unique Shopping

From large department stores to quirky boutiques, Brighton offers a unique shopping experience. North Laine and ‘the Lanes’ offer well over 400 independent shops, restaurants and cafés, offering everything from antiques to chocolate art and designer cupcakes.

For a grander shopping experience, shoppers should visit Kemp Town with it's elegant Georgian architechure and village feel, or The Artists' Quarter, where local artists sell their work from converted fisherman's huts.

200 Years of culture

From humble beginnings as a fishing village, Brighton first became a popular tourist destination in the 19th Century when wealthy Victorians would visit, led by King George, who built the famous Royal Pavillion. Brighton has been an important cultural centre ever since.

The city's history is reflected in its array of museums and art galleries - where you can view everything from an Egyptian gallery to a killer whale skeleton.

Excellent nightlife

Brighton is famed for it's lively and varied nightlife. With five major theatres, a wealth of bars and nightclubs as well as festivals taking place every month of the year, there's something for everyone.

Top attractions

VisitBrighton.com has compiled a list of the top 50 things to do in Brighton, but here are just 5 of our favourites:
  • Eat traditional fish and chips on the sea front
  • Visit the impressive Royal Pavillion
  • Buy an ice cream and visit the fun fair on the famous Brighton Pier
  • Go shopping in the Lanes, and return in the evening to hear about the areas spooky history on a Ghost Walk.

Stafford House Brighton accommodation

Finding the right accommodation is one of the most important decisions.

Our team is always happy to give advice on the best option for you. Most of our students opt for homestay, however we also offer residences and help students find private, more affordable, long term options.

Stafford House Brighton-Homestay

Our homestay accommodation is carefully selected on a family by family basis, ensuring all our Homestay students live in comfortable and pleasant houses with caring families.

We understand that it's a long way to come and study in the UK. Staying in a Homestay is ideal for the English language student, providing the opportunity to speak English outside the classroom and the experience of being part of a British home.

Stafford House Brighton-Homestay offers:

  • integration with family life
  • English practise outside the classroom
  • fully furnished study bedroom
  • students live in single rooms in Homestay. Shared rooms are only available to two students (friends / family) arriving and leaving together.
  • weekly laundry

Meals

  • breakfast and dinner are provided every day by the host family
  • lunch is also provided by host families during the weekend

What to Expect

The host family will provide accommodation and meals as booked. Rooms will be cleaned and bed linen and towels changed at least once a week. The student will be provided with his/her own house key and the host is there to offer help and advice as well as to take an interest in the student's well-being. We aim to match a student's requirements as closely as possible with a suitable host.

Students will not be placed in the same homestay as others of the same mother-tongue, except by special request. English is always the main language spoken in the home.

Stafford House Brighton-Residential

If you want to have some space to yourself and be more independent then a Student House could be a great option for you.

This option allows you to share with other students in a house close to the school, living in an independent but social environment

Recently decorated in contemporary style, the houses each have a living room and often a garden. The modern bathrooms are tiled and kitchens are fully equipped with washing machine and all major appliances (except dishwasher), cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils are provided.

Rooms are cleaned before occupancy only and common areas of the houses are cleaned every 2 weeks. Bed linen is provided but students should bring their own towels. Students are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and laundering their bed linen. Wireless Broadband Internet connection is included in the price.

Stafford House Brighton Private Option

Many long term students don’t wish to stay with homestays for too long. We encourage these students to book about a month in a homestay to settle down, and in that time they can look for a private option.

Brighton is a student city with a large student population. This means there is a lot of private student accommodation available, typically sharing houses with university students. We do not book this directly for you but can point you in the right direction.
